Post election: Moving forward positively

November 17, 2016

The election is over and Donald Trump is the 45th president. With protests in high schools, universities, and numerous cities, it is clear that a lot of people are beside themselves over this news, we have to move forward. To do this, we must keep in mind these four rules, so that we can grow in the right direction. In doing so, we can perhaps get rid of the negativity, unite the country together, and restore greatness in the people and country.

  1. Be respectful.

Being respectful means voicing our own opinions in a way that doesn’t offend others, not fighting with those that don’t share your beliefs, and being open and kind; not arrogant and rude. To move forward in the right direction, we must be respectful, kind, and compassionate to all people.

  1. Don’t dwell on the negatives.

Of course, we are entitled to our own opinions and have the right to be upset and fear the end of the world, but in the end, bitterness will keep the country from growing. So, while it may be hard, listen and try to understand the other side. To move forward in the right direction, we must try to keep an open mind and release all of the negativity so that we can make room for positivity and opportunity.

  1. Be hopeful.

It would be a shame to throw away our beliefs because of one set back. No one knows what the future has in store, so never give up hope. Don’t take this election as a reason to turn cynical; instead take it as an opportunity to make change. To move forward in the right direction, we must stay optimistic and look for opportunities to make a difference.

  1. Make a difference.

It’s our job to use every day to create greatness. If everyone tries to be their best self, there can be no evil. It’s important to always do what is right and to set an example for everyone around us to follow. To move forward in the right direction, we must always spread joy and make a difference anyway we can.

The bottom line in this is to work for what is important to you, but in a peaceful manner, to be open minded and informed, and to always spread positivity.
