Fall is an exciting time for students all around Northgate. The season is marked by the beginning of the school year, rowdy football games under the lights, and the start of cold weather.

For Northgate’s musically inclined students, it also means another thing: the fall concert season. It’s a time for students to see artists they view as idols and inspirations, as well as a time for self expression for the ones who play music.

September starts off the season with a bang. Most notably, big-name artists Drake and Future, who are often heard blasting through students’ speakers in the parking lot, are having a concert together Sept. 13 at the Oracle Arena.

Senior Doreen Hemmati stated, “ I’ve loved Drake for a long time, so I’m really hyped to finally see him.”

Also playing nearby is indie rock band Tame Impala playing a small, intimate show in Berkeley at the Greek Theater on Sept 2. Senior Kellen Hauser is a huge fan of the band, and said “I love the psychedelic vibes (Tame Impala’s) music gives off.”

Fall really kicks into gear with the arrival of October and its musical heavy hitters. Sia accompanied by fellow singer Miguel have a show at the Oracle Arena in Oakland on Oct. 1. Later in the month, ScHoolboy Q and Joey Bada$$ have two shows the weekend of Oct. 14, one in San Francisco and one in Oakland.

Senior Tomas Silva is a fan of both artists. “I like ScHoolboy’s fire production and Joey’s intricate rhymes,” Silva said.

The week after, Chance the Rapper has a show at the Bill Graham in San Francisco on Oct. 21. The next day, polarizing musical juggernaut Kanye West has one of several shows at the Oracle Arena in Oakland.

November finishes off fall with big names of its own. Mac Miller has a show November 9th at the Fox Theater in Oakland, finishing off his Divine Feminine tour.

Finally, rapper YG has a show Black Friday on Nov. 25 at the Fox Theater in Oakland. No matter what your music taste is, fall is guaranteed to meet your musical expectations.

Don’t forget to indulge in local scenes and support Northgate’s Jazz Bands at their shows!
