On the road to graduation, a guide for juniors entering senior year

Jack Wise, Opinion Editor

Hey juniors, listen up: the time where we call ourselves juniors is nearly over. Pretty soon we’ll be worrying about what our Mock Congress seek to change are and nervously awaiting college admissions letters while closely awaiting Graduation Day. But what else is there to being a senior at Northgate?

This will be an easier year than what we faced in junior year, as I think many of you would agree. Even though we can relax a little bit more than the grind of sophomore and junior year, we can’t slack off completely. I’ve heard that some seniors of years past have had their admissions rescinded after letting Senioritis take over completely so proceed at your own risk.

Another thing is we finally get access to the school-renowned Senior Stairs. Chances are you pass this place once each school day on the way to the lockers or going class-to-class. This social hotspot is the epicenter of Northgate life to most seniors as the area is occupied during brunch, lunch, and before school. If you don’t want to sit at the Senior Stairs there are ample other areas around school to sit.

I remember during my last days at middle school I was scared of what the seniors would be like but when I entered high school, I saw I had nothing to worry about. As seniors we have to help our lowerclassmen adjust to the Northgate environment because high school can be scary at times. The hallways being crammed with people going many different directions all at once is overwhelming at first so there are many ways to help out the incoming freshman. And remember, we were once freshman.

One of the most important things we must remember to do is have fun. It is our last year before going into adulthood and down the path of life. Not to be melancholy, but pretty soon we won’t get to see the friends we’ve spent our high school career with as we go off to college. Savor the time we have in senior year because before we know it, we will be walking across the stage at the Concord Pavilion, diplomas in hand and calling ourselves graduates.

Our time is almost up at Northgate and I know it seems scary now but we still have time to relax and make the most of it. Times may be stressful next year and the thought of departing into adulthood might seem scary but this is what we have been preparing for. Before the next chapters of our lives begin, make the most of the time left in high school before it’s too late.
