Boys soccer scores big wins over Lamorinda teams in strong start

With two big wins over Acalanes and Campolindo high schools, the boys soccer team is moving toward the end of season and a likely NCS playoff.

The team is currently 5-5-3 with longtime head coach Steve Chappell. They beat Acalanes 1-0 Dec. 16, and Campolindo 3-1 Jan. 17 in decisive and hard-fought victories.

“Highlights of the season so far have been Seth Van Brocklin hitting a 35-yard banger, beating Acalanes and a clutch comeback against Campo,” said Besagno.

Besagno said that a new year meant adjustments in the game. “Losing a star center that we had last year made it so we all had to step up this year and be on our game,” Besagno said. “But we got some younger boys who can really play and it’s nice to have some new faces on the team.”

“I think our biggest struggle this year is scoring goals. Our defense has been solid. Once we get more connected upfront, we’ll be unstoppable,” said senior Jordan Burkes.

The team has been playing together for a while now and bonded well. “I really feel a sense of family this year,” said senior Jordan Burkes.
