Fourteen seniors celebrate their commitments to college sports teams during a lunchtime symbolic signing ceremony Feb. 7.

Seniors sign with collegiate sports teams

Northgate recognized 14 seniors who have committed to a college or university sports team for next year in its largest “signing” celebration in recent years. About 200 students and family members of the signed athletes enthusiastically attended the event in the forum during lunch, where PE teacher Mike Ahn formally announced the students and their destinations. The students and their intended schools and sports are, from left: Hannah Brajkovich, Pomona, softball; Holly Brown, California State University Sonoma, soccer; Maddie Cassidy, Piedmont, pole vault; Ali Collins, California State University, Chico; volleyball; Jazmyn Hanley, Cal State Lutheran, softball; Gillian Maraccini, University Las Vegas, cheer; Zach Lentz, Dominican University of California, lacrosse; Ivan Ostapenko, California State University Chico, soccer; Semisi Selumi, Oregon State University, football; Alexei Sancov, University of Southern California, swimming; Emma Smethurst, University of California Los Angeles, swimming; Dymphna Ueda, Ursuline College in Ohio, golf; Ian Villers, University of California, Berkeley, baseball; and Audrey Webostad, California State University, Sonoma, water polo. Not pictured is athlete Chiara Gatto, who recently signed with University of Redlands to play volleyball. The event, which involved students signing or recreating the signing of their national letters of intent, was organized by Northgate’s Sports Leadership class and athletic boosters.
