About 370 seniors gathered Dec. 5 and 6 in four different senates throughout campus presenting, debating, and voting on “legislation” that was part of the U/S. Government cutticulum for most of first semester. Starting in September, students wrote legislative bills aimed at improving climate, addressing needs of those experiencing homelessness, addressing educaiton issues and supporting other nations among dozens of issues brought to committees and then the senate. Four different senates convened with the Stars and Stripes Senate in the Little Theater, the White Senate in room 40, the Blue Senate in the Lecture Hall, and the Red Senate in room 37, where students met all day for two days debating and voting on bills. Here is a glimpse of the process.
